After Danny Ramsay's birthday party at the community hall was gatecrashed, a lot of damage was caused. It was quickly forgotten about when Danny's drink was spiked with drugs and he ended up in hospital, but the next morning, his mother Maria received a call from Mr Freeman, the manager of the hall, explaining that he would need $500 to cover the damage. Maria went to see him, to ask if she could pay the money back in instalments, as the family had little to spare, but Mr Freeman told that he would need the full sum within 7 days, or he would have to begin legal proceedings. Maria was unsure what to do, but, seeing the problems it was causing in the family, Danny's older brother Shane made the decision to sell his diving trophies - as an accident a few months earlier had left him unable to continue his sporting career - and gave the money to his mum to pay the debt.
