When Jane Harris met, and became engaged to, American millionaire businessman Mark Granger, little did she realise the trouble her relationship with him was about to cause. When Mark’s mother got to hear about the development, she flew out to Australia, complete with her entourage of maid, chefs, butler and driver. Mrs Granger headed straight to Jane’s home in Ramsay Street, where she was bemused to meet Jane’s Uncle Joe, who was about as far removed from Mrs Granger’s lifestyle as a person could be. She invited Jane to a dinner party at the mansion she was staying in and the evening went extremely well. However, as it drew to a close, Mrs Granger took Jane to one side and told her that, although she was a lovely girl, she was not suitable for Mark. She asked Jane to call the wedding off, and Mark was horrified at her interference. The following day, he sent his mother straight back to America. As fate would have it, the wedding never went ahead, as, only a few weeks later, Rosemary Daniels convinced Jane to call it off.
