During a few months spent working in Sydney, lawyer Toadie Rebecchi met property developer Ted Nash. And, when Toadie returned home to Melbourne, it wasn’t long before Ted got in touch, looking for a lawyer in that area. When Ted met up with Toadie at his office, he passed Toadie’s girlfriend, Steph Hoyland, in the doorway and quickly recognised her from a photo Toadie had on his desk in Sydney. However, at that point, Toadie and Steph hadn’t been a couple, so Toadie had lied that she was his Swedish girlfriend, Astrid, figuring that Ted and Steph would never meet. But Ted then insisted that Toadie bring ‘Astrid’ along to their business meeting that evening, and Toadie was forced to rope Steph in, telling her that she didn’t have to say a word, as he’d already mentioned that Astrid spoke no English.

That evening, Toadie and ‘Astrid’ met for dinner with Ted and his associate, Grant Evans. Steph was horrified as the two married men started leering at her, and struggled to keep her composure as they told a series of insulting blonde jokes. When Toadie briefly left the table, Steph had finally had enough, and proceeded to grab the two men by their collars and warn them that she understood every word and unless they signed the contract with Toadie and disappeared pronto, she would be straight on the phone to their wives.
