Following a gas explosion during Toadie and Sonya's wedding reception, a couple of guests were seriously injured. When the paramedics arrived, one of them, Julie Parelli, went straight into the collapsed marquee to attend to Priya Kapoor, who had been trapped under a pillar, and was unconscious with serious abdominal injuries. Though they managed to get her breathing again, and transferred to hospital, she later died, as her brain had been starved of oxygen for too long.

Later that year, Julie was called out to a medical emergency at 26 Ramsay Street, when swimmer Hudson Walsh started suffering from chest pains and shortness of breath. It was the second time it had happened that day, both in front of Hudson's friend Chris Pappas. After examining Hudson, Julie told him to go and see his GP the next day, but as she left, Chris asked her if it was a panic attack or something more serious. Julie told Chris that the symptoms were pointing to some kind of drug abuse, and that Chris should encourage Hudson to get help.

The following year, Julie was one of the paramedics who attended the call when Kate Ramsay was shot by an unseen assailant in the grounds of Lassiter's, only moments after accepting a marriage proposal from Mark Brennan. As her friends and family, who'd been waiting in Charlie's for her birthday party, gathered around, they were all stunned as they were told that she'd died. A little later, at the hospital, Julie found Brennan and handed him a bag containing the engagement ring.
