When Declan Napier was kidnapped by vengeful Nick Thompson and Laura Davidson, and taken to a caravan in deserted bushland, his family contacted the police, despite being warned against it by the kidnappers. The police managed to trace the call, and as Nick went to collect petrol from a nearby small town, in preparation to hand over Declan and collect the money, he overheard local Senior Constable Jack Norton asking garage owner Al Raunjak if he’d seen a couple, matching Nick and Laura’s description, with a teenage boy. Nick hurried back and managed to get Laura and Declan out of the caravan before it was raided by Sergeant Matt Patterson and his team.
