When rivals Karl Kennedy and Joe Scully ended up at a cookery class together, with Joe too embarrassed to go to the budget class as planned, it ended badly, with Karl patronising Joe, who was unable to understand the instructions of chef Gabriel Proctor. Joe was determined to try and keep up with the gourmet class, however, but at the next lesson he continued to make a fool of himself, this time with jokes that Gabriel didn't find funny. When Gabriel then got chatting to Karl, he asked if he and Joe were friends, and Karl replied that they were just neighbours, which Joe overheard and only served to worsen the feud between the two men.
