Unseen Character Profiles > Maud Ramsay

Maud Ramsay
Parents: 'Black' Jack Ramsay
Siblings: Daniel [Dan]
Family Tree: Ramsay

Dan Ramsay’s stern and pompous sister Maud had a formidable reputation within her own family; her nephew Max was scared stiff of her and her only niece Madge was moved, in younger days, to put a green frog in her nightie - causing screams from Aunt Maud which could be heard for miles. As Maud’s nephews Max and Tom grew up, she was proud that they became “fine Ramsay men” and were both financially secure in her eyes, but her view of Madge was less positive. Like Dan, Maud had wanted Madge to marry the dependable Harold Bishop and had warned her against Fred Mitchell, but strong-willed Madge ignored her family’s wishes.

In the latter half of the 1980s, Maud reached the end of her life, but on her deathbed managed to get the last word in with Madge by writing her a final letter. In it she told Madge that she’d forgiven her for the frog incident but reminded her that she had always disapproved of her wild ways. She even rudely suggested that Henry and Charlene weren’t “much to write home about” as he takes after Fred and Charlene takes after Madge. However, as Madge was Maud’s only niece and Tom and Max both had money, she had decided to leave $50,000 in Daniel’s care for him to decide if Madge should receive it or it should go towards setting up a foundation at the university. After spending a few days making Madge prove Aunt Maud had misjudged her, Dan handed her a cheque and said he’d always planned to give her the money anyway.
