When Donna Freedman suspected that Nick Nixon was her biological father, she managed to get a job at his bar, Carmen's, which he explained was named after his wife. Using the name Kelly, Donna got to know Nick, impressed with the way he treated his staff, including assistant manager Lana Reyes, like a family, but was horrified when she later spotted Nick and Lana kissing in his office. Disgusted that he was cheating on his wife, Donna struggled to know what to do, unsure if she even wanted a lowlife like him as a father. When Donna later bumped into Nick, he asked why she hadn't been in to work or contacted him and she said that she wouldn't be returning, as she didn't want to work for a sleaze bag. Nick tracked her down later that day, wanting to know why she'd said that to him, and she explained what she'd seen, at which point Nick told her that Carmen had been dead for two years, and Lana was the first woman he'd been with since then. Mortified, Donna apologised to him, explaining that she had a difficult family history and had overreacted, comparing Nick's behaviour to her mother's. Realising that she couldn't keep up the lies any longer, she then met up with Nick again and explained that she thought he could be her dad - at this point, Nick walked out on her, later returning and apologising, admitting that he'd known about her existence all along and wasn't sure if he'd ever get to know his daughter properly.
