Guest Character Profiles > Jamie Neyland Angela Johnson

Jamie Neyland 2024, 2025
Occupation: Police Constable

After being falsely accused of being the cyclist who was pooping all over Erinsborough, Karl Kennedy became known as Dr Pooper and was determined to clear his name. With the help of Aaron Brennan, he found out that Jacob Burchmore was the person responsible. However, Jacob's grandmother, wealthy widow Shirley Burchmore, was due to buy an apartment at Eirini Rising, the retirement complex where Karl was working, and she warned that, if word got out about Jacob and hurt his career as a barrister, then she would not be buying. Not wanting to cause problems for boss Terese Willis, Karl had already made his mind up to stay silent, but when Shirley then sent him a new bike to sweeten the deal, he decided to keep it. When Constable Jamie Neyland then turned up at Eirini Rising, while Jacob was having coffee with Shirley, and took him in for questioning, Shirley was appalled, refusing to believe that Karl hadn't tipped off the police. It had actually been Karl's neighbour Mackenzie who'd let slip to a lawyer friend, who'd contacted the police herself, but Karl decided to keep her out of it. When Jacob then returned and reported that he'd been charged with public indecency, Shirley declared that she was taking back the bike.

After lying to her new uni friends that she was younger than she actually was, and failing to mention that she had a husband and daughter at home, Wendy Rodwell's marriage to Sergeant Andrew Rodwell looked like it was in trouble when he found out. When Andrew didn't come home from work at the police station that evening, and didn't answer any of Wendy's texts, she went down there, asking Jamie if Andrew was there. When Jamie replied that Andrew was over at the hotel, Wendy assumed he'd booked himself in and wasn't coming home, and was embarrassed to learn that he'd been called in because a fight had broken out in reception.

A few months later, when an armed siege broke out at the Waterhole, Sergeant Andrew Rodwell was shocked to realise that his wife Wendy had been trapped inside, hiding in the office with Quinn Lao. Wendy had told Andrew that she was going to end her friendship with Quinn, after learning that he was attracted to her, so he was shocked to hear their voices inside and briefly froze before ordering officers to storm the building. When the victims were being questioned the next morning, Jamie mentioned to Andrew that Quinn was next to be interviewed and he claimed that he had other work to do, asking a surprised Jamie to interview Quinn herself.

The following year, the Rodwell marriage appeared to be back on track after Wendy spent a few months away on a teaching placement. When she returned, she struggled to find a full time teaching placement in the area, but was surprised to be offered work back in Murrayville, several hours away. After failing to persuade Andrew that they could make the move together, she went behind his back and made enquiries about police work in Murrayville and, the next day, Andrew was confused to find his colleagues behaving strangely towards him. After some awkward small talk with Jamie, she explained that they'd heard that he'd been looking for work elsewhere and were disappointed that he hadn't told anyone. After hearing that the enquiries were about a job in Murrayville, Andrew quickly realised what had happened and confronted his wife, pointing out that he'd worked for years towards promotion and now she'd ruined all of that trust, with his colleagues believing that he had one foot out the door.

A couple of weeks later, a woman named Sandra Jago arrived at the police station looking for Andrew. Sandra had developed a crush on Andrew after attending his self-defence classes, continuing to flirt with him after learning that he was married. This led to problems in Andrew's marriage and him asking Sandra to leave the class. Andrew quickly asked Jamie if she would go and speak to Sandra, as he didn't want to deal with her.
