When Erinsborough newcomer Mickey Gannon attended a holiday workshop programme with some other local kids, he quickly found himself the target of young bully Matcham Rolfe. When Mickey made a picture for his friend Janae Timmins, who was planning to leave the area, Matcham laughed at it and screwed it up, causing Mickey to get upset and wet himself. Later, when Matcham’s dad Marty came to pick him up, he showed little remorse for his son’s actions, almost leading to a fight with Mickey’s dad, Ned. A few weeks later, Ned was horrified to learn that nasty Marty was the coach for the Erinsborough Dingoes under-nines team, the Pups. After watching Marty bullying and belittling the children, including Mickey and Matcham, Ned publically berated him and a vote was called with the other parents, asking if Marty was really the sort of man they wanted to train their children. When it was decided that he was not, Ned promptly took over as coach.
