Poppy Ryan 2018
Popular and sporty, Poppy Ryan caught the eye of Jimmy Williams at Erinsborough High, but his attempts to speak to her
ended in disaster, as he said 'Hi Jimmy' and struggled to move the conversation on from there. When his friend Kirsha - who'd been suffering from hearing problems - overheard parts of him
rehearsing his next conversation with Poppy, she mistakenly thought he had a crush on her, and tried to let him down gently. When Kirsha then found out that Poppy was actually the object of Jimmy's affections, she agreed to
try and help him out. Kirsha arranged to bump into Poppy one day at Harold's Cafe, and engaged her in conversation, suggesting that she should consider going out with Jimmy. Although the plan had a positive outcome for Jimmy,
who then went to the cafe and asked Poppy out on a date to the mini-golf, it looked like Poppy's presence might threaten his friendship with Kirsha - believing that Kirsha was still completely deaf, Poppy stood nearby and had
a phone conversation with her friend Tia, saying that she couldn't understand why a guy like Jimmy hung around with a 'loser deaf girl' like Kirsha. Things only got worse between Kirsha and Poppy,
with an oblivious Jimmy hoping that if they spent more time together, they might start to get along, unaware of the cruel way that Poppy was treating Kirsha behind his back.
Matters finally came to a head when Jimmy, Poppy and Kirsha were amongst a group of students who went on a Leadership Camp in the bush and, as Poppy's sly
taunting continued, Kirsha decided to say something to Jimmy, who'd been aware that she was being bullied but hadn't realised that Poppy was responsible.
When Jimmy then confronted Poppy about her behaviour, she agreed to stop, but the nasty comments continued when Poppy had a moment alone with Kirsha during
a school walk. Unfortunately for Poppy, Kirsha's older sister, Yashvi, who was helping at the camp, overheard and angrily confronted Poppy and soon Poppy
was being sent back to the camp and informed that her parents would be called to take her home. After hearing about this latest incident, Jimmy then told
Poppy that he didn't want to go out with her anymore.
