When Boyd Hoyland found a fox in a cage, abandoned at the church after an animal blessing ceremony given by his grandmother, Reverend Rosie Hoyland, he decided to keep it and look after it, despite strict laws about keeping foxes as pets. He found out that the fox had been left there by Cecile Bliss, who wanted to help it but had nowhere to hide it, so the pair continued secretly feeding the fox, who they named Roxy, until they were caught by Lou Carpenter and Harold Bishop. Boyd begged them not to report it or take Roxy to the vet, but the animal was clearly quite ill and Harold insisted that they go to the local veterinary surgery, where Dr Luke Shea explained that they animals were wild and could be carrying all kinds of diseases. He said that Roxy would need to be put down, but Cecile and Boyd refused to allow this and eventually Dr Shea relented and Roxy was given clemency and found a place to stay at a local petting zoo.
