When her usual yoga class at the community centre was cancelled, Susan Kennedy noticed a dance class advertised in another room and decided that it might be a good alternative. Having just hired a new deputy editor, Erinsborough News editor Susan was looking for fun new ways to spent her free time, and chatted to instructor Evie about how she'd done some dancing in her younger days and it had impressed her ex-husband. Susan was confused when Evie told her that she'd need to wear high heeled shoes, to help with the posture, and was shocked when she walked in to find that she'd joined a pole-dancing class. Soon, however, Susan was enjoying herself in her secret new hobby, only confiding in her friend Priya about what she'd been doing. When she attended her next class, she was just practising some moves on the pole when she spotted her new deputy, Bradley Fox peering in the window. Bradley later explained that he'd come to write a story for the newspaper about the pole-dancing craze in the keep-fit world and, although embarrassed at first, Susan realised that her new hobby was nothing to be ashamed of.

Some weeks later, Susan took her sister Carmel along to one of the classes, determined to prove that she wasn't completely boring and did have some fun in life. Evie was happy to see them, until an overly enthusiastic Carmel climbed onto the pole and promptly fell off, injuring her knee in the process.
