When Dr Darcy Tyler was plotting behind the back of his uncle, Dr Karl Kennedy, to steal away his surgery and sell it as a superpractice, he met with Marcus Teague, a representative of Total Cover Health. Although Marcus was impressed with Darcy’s plans, he was uncomfortable with discussing it without Karl present and warned Darcy that he would pull out of the negotiations if things got messy, but was prepared to offer $1.6 million for the surgery. With debts piling up, Darcy was forced to press Marcus for a definite answer, and had to meet him at home, dragging his fiancée Tess Bell into the lie. When Karl saw Tess and Marcus casually chatting in the Coffee Shop one day, he wondered how they knew each other, and Tess lied that Marcus was an old friend of her late husband, Brendan. However, realising that the deal couldn’t go ahead without Karl’s consent, Darcy finally told his uncle everything and, after agonising over it, Karl agreed to sell up. However, when Marcus arrived to sign the papers, he suddenly announced that they would have to drop the price, and when Darcy turned his offer down, Marcus pulled out of the deal, finding another site for the superpractice and leaving Darcy with a lot of explaining to do.
