As Boyd Hoyland tried to impress his dad, Max, with his cricket skills, he was frustrated when, after performing an impressive catch, his dad had been too distracted to notice, and continued to criticise him. During the trials to play for Erinsborough, Boyd found himself facing Michael Toohey, the captain of the opposing team and a fast bowler. During the first attempt, Boyd ended up being hit by the ball on the shoulder, and Michael asked if he should bowl slower next time, but Boyd insisted he was fine, and ended up hitting a six. Having spent weeks trying to tell his dad that he wasn’t really interested in cricket, Boyd ended up being accepted onto the team, letting out a weary sigh as he found out that his dad had been accepted as assistant coach.
