Following a difficult time in her life, Terese Willis was staying at Lassiter's hotel, and her old flame and colleague Ezra Hanley joined her in her room for a glass of wine. When Terese decided that she didn't want things to go any further, Ezra refused to leave and she had to force him out of the room. After telling boss Paul what had happened, Ezra soon found himself out of a job, and just as things were getting back on track for Terese and husband Brad, and they were looking forward to Christmas together, server Phil Tractor arrived on their doorstep, handing Terese some papers which informed her that Ezra was suing her for defamation.

A few months later, Phil returned to Ramsay Street to deliver the news to Sheila Canning that she was being sued for defamation. After an angry confrontation with homophobic customer Alistair Hall at the Waterhole, Sheila had found herself an internet star and someone had filmed and uploaded a clip of her rant. Unfortunately, Alistair hadn't taken kindly to the humiliation, deciding to take legal action against her.
