A classmate of Paul McClain and Tad Reeves, Ricky Tyson quickly picked up on the fact that teacher Tess Bell was distracted, following the hospitalisation of her husband, Brendan, after a car crash. Ricky took the opportunity to play up in class, at which point Tad, who knew what Tess was going through, told Ricky to stop being dumb and shut up.
