After teenage sweethearts Mike Young and Jane Harris rekindled their romance many years later, they ended up living together on Ramsay Street, joined by Mike's daughter, Sam, who had found work at Lassiters hotel nearby. After Mike and Jane got engaged, he ended up staying in Europe for a while, working for a motorcycle tour company in Scotland. As his trip away continued to be extended and his travels spread across Europe, both he and Jane started to have their doubts about things and he finally admitted that something had developed between him and his boss, Angela. With the engagement called off, it was decided that Sam would continue living with Jane and her family. Over the couple of years that followed, Sam visited her mum, Rose, in Western Australia and in late 2025, Mike and Angela announced their wedding plans. Rose then stopped by in Erinsborough to pick up Sam for their three-month trip to Europe for the wedding. This first meeting with Rose proved particularly enlightening for Jane's daughter, Nicolette, who was struck by the similarities between Rose and Jane. As the pair shared their love of jigsaws and Devonshire teas, and even bought Sam exactly the same bumbag for her trip away, Nicolette joked to Sam that Mike seemed to have a very specific taste in women.
