When Zeke Kinski went missing, following a rafting accident, various police searches turned up nothing, but his stepfather Karl Kennedy remained convinced that he was alive. Though slowly coming to accept the worst, his hopes were raised when a call came through from a country hospital, who had a badly-injured unidentified teenage boy on their wards. Karl and wife Susan went to Bairnsdale Regional Hospital, where Dr John Sibbett prepared them for what they were about to see, but neither of them could help feeling a mixture of relief and disappointment when it turned out that it wasn't Zeke. Outside, Karl and Susan both broke down, and he came to realise that Zeke was gone.
