After deciding to make some changes in his life, brainy Boyd Hoyland ditched studying and applied for a job at Fitness For Life gym. Manager Krystal took him on, and was soon encouraging him to try out for the junior bodybuilding championships, telling his to take human growth hormones, or HGH, to improve his performances. Boyd received further encouragement from another of the gym instructors, Todd, who helped him to look at his diet and how it could be improved. As his friends and family began to notice his obsession worsening, then Boyd started to worry that the hormone injections were making him paranoid, he realised that Krystal had just been using him, stopped taking the HGH and quit his job.

The gym was also used by several other Ramsay Street residents, including Paul Robinson and Izzy Hoyland, who began an affair whilst in the sauna together, where they were almost caught in a passionate embrace.
