After having his heart broken by Carmella Cammeniti, Marco Silvani applied for a job as far away from Erinsborough as possible – on a winery out in Western Australia. It quickly became clear to winery owner Cathy Martin that Marco was on the run from something, but he refused to talk about his heartbreak, preferring to get on with his work and enjoy the vast vineyards. Impressed by Marco’s attitude, Cathy decided to offer him a permanent contract, but he hesitated before signing, unable to stop thinking about Carmella and worried that, by signing the next year of his life away, he might lose any chance of a reunion. Carmella was having similar thoughts, and the pair finally got their act together and she asked him to come home, leaving Cathy disappointed to lose one of her best workers.
