Actor, Cameo & Crew Profiles > Cameo Profiles > Fiona Coote Heart Transplant Patient

Fiona Coote 1987

In June 1987, Fiona Coote was due to film the role of Debbie Morris, but was forced to back out when, on the night before filming, she fell ill. The role was then recast with Andrea Blaski.

Born in 1969 in New South Wales, Fiona Coote was 14 when she was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, a condition which causes the heart to become enlarged. She became famous overnight in Australia as the youngest person to have a heart transplant but, within two years, her new heart was failing and she underwent a second transplant. She went on to become well known in the Australian media, including her failed guest appearance on Neighbours. Fiona, now in her 30s, is now married and has become something of a spokeswoman for heart transplant programs.
