Born 5th July 1979 in London, Menik Gooneratne spent her early years travelling with her family, due to her father's work with the UN, later settling
in Melbourne. In her youth, she was a member of the Victorian Children's Choir. One of her first television acting roles came with one episode of Neighbours, playing Shanti Pandya, in 2000. She went on to
make appearances in Last Man Standing and Underbelly and appeared as Gita during the second season of MDA. She appeared in the short films Storage and Hard Rubbish and in 2011,
returned to the cast of Neighbours in the recurring, and later regular, role of school principal Priya Kapoor. Menik remained in the role for 18 months, making her final appearance on Australian screens in
April 2013, following her character's death. Also in April, she made a guest appearance as Marnie in Australian drama House Husbands and announced her pregnancy.
