Ian Rawlings, was born March 9th 1959, in Whyalla, South Australia. Ian is married to actress Lee and they have one child, Lauren.
Ian's big break into acting came with the role of Wayne Hamilton in Sons and Daughters. An original cast member of the show, he continued in the role for the programme's entire five-year run. In 1989 he was a regular cast member of short-lived
Australian soap The Power, The Passion, playing Ryan McAllister, though the show only lasted for 168 episodes.
With no roles coming up, Ian decided to give up on acting and take a job as a salesman with a big freight company, where he had previously worked, and he stayed there for 2 years.
Following a 1990 guest role in the Mission: Impossible television series, Ian returned to soap with a guest role as businessman Marcus Stone in Neighbours. Only four months later, in 1992, Ian was offered the regular role of Philip Martin
a character who had been previously played by Christopher Milne in 1985. Ian continued to play Philip for seven years, and during his time on Neighbours, he became the most featured male in the show in the 1990s and was nominated for
"Best Supporting Actor" at the 1997 Inside Soap Awards.
In 1999, the Martin family were written out of Neighbours and, since leaving, Ian has had guest roles in series such as Blue Heelers, Stingers and MDA. In 2005, Ian reprised his role as Philip Martin for the
Neighbours 20th Anniversary celebration episodes.
