Sandy Winton was born Alexander Gordon, on 18 December 1970. He attended Newington College from 1983 to 1988, and is a graduate of the National Institute of Dramatic Art which he studied Performing Arts (Acting), graduating in 1995.

Sandy has starred in a wide selection of TV programmes such as All Saints in 1998, Xena: Warrior Princess in 2001, Tripping Over in 2006, and in 2009 he played the guest character Rex Avent in Home and Away. In 2010, it was announced that Sandy would be joining the cast of Neighbours as Michael Williams. Sandy, who is married and has two children, relocated to Melbourne to play the character and stayed with the show for 2 years.

Since leaving Neighbours in 2012, Sandy moved back up to Sydney and has starred in the 2012 drama series Tricky Business.
