YOUNG Neighbours star and musician Sam Clark is not afraid of hard work.
Despite a heavy workload on the soap -- this week working 62 hours -- he has been solidly building opportunities in his music career.
Recently, he played for representatives of major music labels Sony BMG and Universal in Sydney and next week he will play for Warner.
"It is all about putting yourself out there and seeing what happens," he said.
"My music has been a focus of my whole life though, well before I was on Neighbours."
He is in the middle of writing an album and hopes once he has the right song, he will be signed by a major label.
"All my spare time goes into writing at the moment because there's no point having gigs if you don't have anything to sing," he said.
He recently teamed with an as-yet unnamed band who will provide backing for him, describing their sound as "on the rock side of Matchbox 20".
They are playing a gig at city bar Manchester Lane on Tuesday.
Though he is only 20, Clark said he wanted to get moving with his career.
"It's important to launch your music career while you're young, from a longevity point of view," he said.
Clark joined the Neighbours cast on a three-month contract after winning a teen magazine search and is now approaching his second anniversary with the show.
