The consequences of Sindi sudden attack on Toadie signalled the beginning of the end for her marriage to Stuart. Her husband spotted Sindi push his best friend down the stairwell at their honeymoon hotel and demanded the truth. Sindi’s extreme paranoia soon surfaced and following a state of confusion she confessed all – to causing the fall of Kelly Weaver, the road accident of Trent Hoffa and numerous other ‘accidents’ in Ramsay Street. Instead of being angry, Stuart and Toadie realised the true extent of Sindi’s mental illness and treated her sympathetically. However, they realised she needed professional help and notified the authorities who took her away. Although there have been understandable criticisms of the way in which Sindi’s character was so quickly changed to suit her exit storyline, there can be no doubting the heart-rending performances of all involved and the sincerity with which the writers have addressed the issue of mental illness.

Janae’s desire for cosmetic surgery continued unabated this week, despite Karl trying to put her off with gruesome images of surgical procedures. Although a little shocked, the defiant teen was adamant about going ahead with her breast enhancement. Her younger sister, meanwhile, was busy helping Rachel settle in at school and trying to educate her in the ‘normal’ ways of teenage living. However, some of the boys in her year decided to poke fun at Rachel’s slightly unique tendencies and this upset her and her father who used this as further ammunition to have the children removed from the school. Yet, Bree managed to persuade Dylan to have a quiet word with the bullies and they soon stopped their teasing. Rachel was much happier and managed to persuade her father that she and Zeke should be allowed to stay on at the school. Alex, meanwhile, was smitten with Susan, and finally plucked up the courage to ask her out on a date. Despite being surprised, Susan happily accepted.

Life for the women of No.26 was equally stressful this week, as Janelle took on GoGo in the courier business by trying to swipe as many of her customers as possible. However, Lyn was getting more and more irate at the liberties her houseguests were taking and was close to throwing them out. Lyn’s daughter, Stephanie, was also having a stressful week, but confusion arose as to what she was planning when she was seen making several private phone calls. Max got suspicious, but Steph threw him off the scent by pretending she was organising a surprise fortieth birthday party for him.

Paul and Izzy’s relationship moved up a gear as the mystery surrounding her disappearance was solved. Paul, making a run from Ramsay Street and the police was hiding out in the bush, when he discovered a sign for a health farm sharing the name of Izzy’s bar. Putting two and two together he visited the retreat and found Izzy living the lap of luxury. Max and Steph were notified and Paul managed to persuade her to return to Ramsay Street with him and stay at No.22. Trouble caused by Izzy’s lawyer did not cease, however, and he threatened to open a box containing, amongst other things, the gloves used by the arsonist who set fire to Lassiter’s and incriminating documents. The lawyer demanded money in return for keeping quiet, but during a party held to welcome Paul and Izzy back to the street, they decided that they would stage a robbery at the lawyer’s house and steal the contents.

Finally, next door at the Bishops’, David and Lil became increasingly concerned with Connor’s feelings for Serena, and when their daughter asserted her right to go off with him on a photographic shoot for the Bounce Bikini shop they out their foot down, until Connor assured them his intentions were honourable. But, a mix-up over the bed situation in the hotel meant the couple had to share a room, and this caused Serena’s parents to criticise Connor’s moral standing when they found out. However, Serena was quick to defend him and announced her love for her colleague in front of her family. Although there is a bizarre sort of ‘niceness’ about their relationship, it does worry slightly that the couple have fallen in love with each other within a couple of weeks of working together. Moreover, the fact that prior to this storyline the characters had little if any interaction makes it more than just a little unbelievable, especially when contrasted with Sky and Dylan’s deep and meaningful discussions about love and relationships taking time etc.
