It was all about confusion, the unknown and holding back emotions this week...

The secrecy behind Stephanie’s phone calls was finally revealed this week when Max caught her out when he lied about spending the day with Stanno. She confessed that she had not been feeling well and that she feared the cancer had returned. However, a visit to the hospital put their minds at ease when Karl assured them that she was not unwell, but rather that she was pregnant! Steph was overjoyed after finally conceiving, despite the odds being stacked against her. Medicine was the theme of the Hoyland house this week as Boyd returned home from wherever he’d been sent as an excuse to give actor Kyal Marsh a couple of weeks off, and announced he wanted to go to medical school and become a doctor. Max was very proud his son had made such a mature decision and he encouraged him to talk to Karl about it.

Izzy and Paul’s plan to break into her lawyer’s house seemed to be going well. Their complex overriding of the alarm system enabled them to make their way to the bedroom and find the box, as well as coming across some incriminating photos of the lawyer and a girl who was not his wife! Despite almost getting caught when the said wife returned home and started vacuuming, the couple managed to make their escape and ceremoniously burned the gloves and papers on the barbeque at No.22. Later in the week, Paul made Joe an offer of building work with the promise of good pay. Joe was wary of taking money from Paul given the feelings of his neighbours towards him, but spurred on by his desire to pay for Sky to to go university, he decided it was worth making the deal. However, Joe, like the rest of the neighbours assumed the building work was to extend Lassiter’s, but whether that is the case or not remains to be seen.

Lou, meanwhile, forced out of No.22 by Paul’s behaviour needed somewhere to stay, and with Harold’s house being full now Joe was staying, Lou pretended he was living with the boys at No.30 so that Harold didn’t feel obliged to let him have the sofa. However, Toadie didn’t realise that when he covered for Lou by making out that he was living with them, that Lou was actually planning on moving in and by the end of the day he was boogying on down with the House of Trouser.

Life in the Timmins household was altogether more eventful this week as Janae continued to see Karl as more than just her counsellor. Indeed, when Karl confronted the confused teen about her motives behind the sessions, Janae broke down and admitted she wished Karl was her father. This was the culmination of a week of worry for Karl that Janae was getting too attached to him, especially when he discovered she’d lied about a play she was reading at school in order to justify seeing a performance at the same time and place as Karl.

Dylan was under attack this week from Mike Pill. Again. Almost as if Neighbours are tying to hammer home the message that violence is to be condemned on a nightly basis, we had the by now usual Sky advising Dylan on how to overcome his aggression and not resort to punches as a resolution and how proud she would be of him if he could. The youngest Timmins was busy continuing to ‘train’ Rachel and Zeke on the art of living in modern day Australia and advising them of necessary pop culture references they should be aware of and the sorts of food they should try eating! However, an attempt to send Zeke out on his first ever bike ride ended in tears as he had to be treated in hospital after coming off his bicycle.

Meanwhile, Joe and Lyn’s relationship took a step forward when Janelle marched a smitten Lyn round to No.24 to confront her feelings for her new neighbour. This came around after Janae had suggested that her mother was deliberately hindering her friend’s chances of a relationship on selfish grounds. Janelle, however, was busy fighting off GoGo for the courier run, and when Stingray’s former boss suggested a bike race between herself and Janelle to see who was the finest, Ma Timmins agreed, despite not being on a bike for years. However, unfamiliarity with the brakes enabled Janelle to literally fly past the finish line and claim the monopoly on Erinsborough’s courier trade! As if that wasn’t enough to keep her busy, Janelle was still writing her memoir and suffering from day dream sequences involving her not-so-fictitious characters! Indeed, when Bree invited Susan to read a draft of the novel, their neighbour was horrified to discover she was the villain of the piece! In a fantastic scene, Susan came over all dramatic and emotional apologising to Janelle for how she may have judged her, leaving viewers wondering if it had been yet another dream sequence or Susan getting some revenge.

And finally, Ramsay Street waved goodbye to Sindi this week as her condition was deemed unsuitable for treatment in Erinsborough surrounded by so many memories. She was given a transfer to a hospital in New South Wales, and she had to break the news to Stuart that she didn’t want to see him anymore, and that they should annul the marriage. A heartbroken Stuart couldn’t bear to divorce his wife, but his feelings had little impact as he had to say goodbye to Sindi, possibly for good.

Notes: Fully illustrated summaries of Wednesday and Thursday's (Sindi's Departure: Parts One and Two) episodes can be found here.

Stephanie’s oncologist is now the ever-present Dr Veronica Olenski, as opposed to the previous specialist she had during 2003-2004, Roberta Marley.
