A new arrival brought a few surprises, as another resident’s drug dependency was finally revealed...

There was a big shock in store for Janelle, when she found a naked man in the lounge room this week, and things only got worse when he dropped his towel. However, the arrival of Harold and Susan quickly helped to solve the mystery, as he was revealed as Ned Parker, Stuart’s younger brother who’d attended his sibling’s wedding only a few weeks earlier. Having got the wrong address, Ned was quickly pointed in the right direction, but his brother wasn’t too happy to see him, clearly still depressed about Sindi’s departure and suspicious that his parents were using Ned to spy on him. Stu’s housemates were relieved to see Ned though, hoping that he could help Stuart to open up about Sindi and the events of the past few weeks. Unfortunately, Ned’s presence only seemed to make things worse and, the following day, Stuart risked his life to save Rachel and Zeke Kinski, following a gas leak at a local science lab. As he got the kids to safety, Stuart stayed inside the building and passed out, muttering Sindi’s name. The incident made everyone realise just how bad things had become, so Toadie was dumbfounded when Ned insisted on taking his brother away for a fishing trip, after only one night in hospital recovering. And things deteriorated further for Stu when Ned challenged him to a race across the lake they were fishing in, only for Stuart to struggle in the final stages and disappear under the water, with Ned showing little sign of taking him seriously. Ned has been an interesting new addition to the cast after only a few episodes. His laid-back, somewhat dim personality makes a refreshing change from the testosterone-fuelled idiocy of the current House of Trouser residents, and hopefully he’ll stick around and continue to make Toadie and the gang more watchable.

Elsewhere, the reason behind Izzy’s quick recovery from her life falling apart was revealed, as she visited a local doctor to get her anti-depressant and sleeping pill prescriptions renewed. Unaware of the trouble his housemate was getting herself into, Paul employed Izzy as Lassiter’s new business affairs manager and proceeded to have some fun with his neighbours. Not content with threatening to build an extra storey on top of number 22, Paul then explained that he was holding a meeting with all of Lassiter’s lease holders to discuss their rent. By the time the meeting took place, the following morning, everyone was convinced that Paul was going to make a huge rent increase and they’d all be forced to move elsewhere. However, after a few moments, Izzy and Paul announced that rent prices would be remaining the same. After having their fun, Izzy struggled to cope as the drugs took hold of her and she ended up flirting with a disturbed Dylan in the park. Dylan was quick to break the news to a jealous Paul, who followed Izzy that evening and spotted her leaving the bar with a complete stranger.

Sky was furious to learn that Joe was off on another date with Lyn this week, but this time, her motives weren’t entirely selfish. Things only got worse when Sky spotted her dad doing a deal for some work with Paul and she was finally forced to explain why she was so upset – it was Kerry’s birthday. After patching things up, Joe took Sky to the bar for the evening and admitted that he normally remembered her on the anniversary of her death, but approved of this new tradition. Joe also promised that he would make more time for Sky, but by the end of the week, he was back at Lynnie’s place, with an exciting gift for her, a greyhound named Bouncer 5. Although slightly confused by the present, Lyn eventually agreed that the dog could stay and Joe started planning how he was going to make them plenty of money at the races.

Connor and Serena’s relationship was taking small steps forward this week, as he continued to struggle to relate to her and treat her as an adult. He finally found a way to make her smile by buying some tickets to an Australian Idol concert and before long, things were back on track. Another relationship struggling to get going this week was that of Susan and Alex. After their first date ended with Zeke in hospital and Alex bluntly turning down Susan’s offer of a lift home, he apologised and asked for a second try. Susan happily agreed and decided that it might be safer if she cooked and Alex came over to number 28. How wrong she was. Things got off to a terrible start when Susan knocked over some oil and set the stove alight, with Alex arriving just in time to help put the fire out. With dinner ruined, they feasted on take-away pizza and things were just picking up when Susan mentioned sharing a kiss. Before long, a nervous Alex was in a rush to leave, elbowing Susan in the face as he stood up and leaving her with a black eye to explain to the suspicious neighbours. Desperate that the third date would be a success, Alex turned up at the school and whisked Susan off for a romantic picnic in the park. After finally sharing a kiss, the day once again looked set to end badly, when Rachel and Zeke were caught in a gas leak at a local science lab. Fortunately, they were released from hospital after being checked over, and all went back to Susan’s. As the kids fell asleep on the couch, Susan took the opportunity to suggest that Alex spend the night and it looked like she could be set for some happiness at last.

Finally, Janae opened up to Karl about her father and admitted that, although he was, according to Janelle, a complete creep, she missed him and wanted to talk to him. Bree found herself in an unusual position when Rachel and Zeke challenged her to tell the truth for the day. It soon got her into trouble, however, when she was forced to tell her mum that Janae was avoiding her and was trying to track down her father. Meanwhile, Dylan was forced to swallow his pride and turn to Sky’s ex, Boyd, for some help in preparing for his big fight with Mike Pill.
