It was a week filled with old friends and rekindled romances…

Boyd & Janae delivered their wedding invites, but weren’t patient enough to wait for replies. As the young couple made plans for the wedding, their parents mocked, after Janelle relented and decided to attend, she was left trying to convince Max. Disappointed that people weren’t as excited about the wedding as they were, Boyd suggested eloping. After breaking down in Janelle’s arms, Bree was forced to admit that she had been searching for her biological parents, and told her mum what had happened upon visiting the address she had. Wanting to ease her daughter’s pain, Janelle suggested putting an ad in the paper.

With “Old 997” a hit with the customers at The General Store and number 24, Mishka made plans for the profits. Feeling happy and fulfilled for the first time in a while, Lou told her he didn’t know what he’d do without her, and when she suggested handing herself into the immigration department so that she could stay legally, Lou talked her round. Paul apologised to Dylan for not believing his suspicions about “Cameron”, and invited him to dinner. As they arrived back at number 22, Paul was called away. With Gail & Izzy already out shopping, Elle & Dylan found themselves alone, and they kissed. After working through some initial concerns, they kissed again and fell asleep together on the sofa.

Not sure if she was ready to be a mother, Sky turned to her mum’s diary for advice, which seemed to suggest that Kerry never questioned her decision to go through with her pregnancy, leaving Sky feeling that she was unready to be a mother. As she sat on the veranda of number 24 reading the diary, Sky saw Dylan leaving number 22 and accidentally dropped some loose pages from the diary, distracted by Dylan, she hastily picked them up, accidentally missing one, which flew off onto the driveway. Taking the chance to tell Dylan her news, she ran after him, but he refused to listen and drove off. As he did so, Sky threw a conveniently placed plant pot at his car, furious, he stopped and berated her before going to get back in the car, but stopped in his tracks when Sky announced that she was pregnant. After talking things through with Dylan, Sky headed to the abortion clinic, alone, but not wanted her to go through with such an important thing unsupported, Mishka went along too. Meanwhile, as Lou returned home to collect another box of “Old 997” for The General Store, he discovered the missing page of Kerry’s diary on the driveway and raced to the clinic to show Sky. Initially shocked by Lou’s arrival, Sky read the page that he gave to her and realised that her mother had exactly the same concerns, and if Kerry had made the same decision, she wouldn’t be there. Fortified by her mother’s strength, Sky decided against the termination, but after being told the news by Dylan, as shocked Stingray arrived at the clinic, wondering if he was the father and after seeing Sky leave, wrongly assumed she’d had the termination. When they got home, Sky thanked Lou & Mishka for their support and told them they had been like parents to her, and will always be part of her family.

Izzy was jealous when Paul cooked Gail her favourite breakfast, but the shoe was on the other foot when Gail saw how close Izzy was with Elle. Discharged from hospital, Robert returned to Ramsay Street and had to pretend that life at number 22 was a completely new experience for him, announcing to Paul that he was only there for his mum, and would be leaving as soon as he could. Meanwhile, Izzy was shocked to discover that Paul & Gail used to be flight attendants, and mocked Paul for it. As Elle, Izzy and Gail laughed at Paul demonstrating aircraft safety procedures, which sadly he didn’t show the Bishops; Robert couldn’t stand to see them all getting along so well and stormed out. Gail told Robert that Paul isn’t the monster he makes him out to be, and that she just wanted her kids to repair their relationships with their father, and suggested he made an effort to get to know him. Paul & Izzy were shocked when Toadie told them that the evidence against Cameron was purely circumstantial and he stood a firm chance of being released on the grounds of reasonably doubt. After hearing the news, Robert told his parents that they had to stop Cameron being released, as he is unstable and dangerous, Izzy agreed. After Robert brought her a bouquet of tulips, her favourites, Katya she soon realised Cameron was telling the truth and Robert was behind the events of the past few months, but was unable to convince anyone that she was right. As Gail & Paul made plans to visit Helen & Jim’s graves, Paul suggested visiting her father’s and apologised for walking out on his wake to go to a meeting. Touched by his sentiment, however late, they kissed. After seeing his parents embrace, Robert suggested he and Paul go away together for a couple of days to bond, but it seemed that Robert had something more up his sleeve.

Kid’s talent scout, Justine offered to help Oodles ‘O’ Noodles with their career, but wanted Ned for his other talents too, however, Ned wanted to keep things strictly professional. After organising a booking agent to see them in action, Justine tried to convince Karl to leave the group, telling him that the agent thought he had a place in the adult market, without Ned, but she was annoyed when Karl refused to betray his partner and leave the group.

As Alex’s birthday approached, Zeke felt down, so Susan suggested they build Alex’s tortoise, William a new enclosure and then spend his dad’s birthday visiting Alex’s favourite places. Meanwhile, after having a dream in which something was wrong with her ex-father-in-law, Tom, Susan began to worry about him and after learning from Karl that one of Tom’s neighbours found him walking the streets in his pyjamas and that it seemed like dementia, Susan felt even more concerned, especially after learning that Karl was going to Tom’s alone. Seeing Susan was distracted as they waited for Rachel to meet them so they could go out for Alex’s birthday, Katya told her to go after Karl, pointing out to Zeke that Karl helped Alex in his time of need, and Alex would have wanted Susan to do the same for Karl. Reluctantly, Zeke agreed. At Tom’s farm, Karl was shocked by the state of the place and pleasantly surprised to see Susan arrive. Karl was worried about what they’d find; fearing the worst, but with Susan’s support he eventually went in. As they entered, the pair were shocked by the state Tom and the house were in, but as Tom blamed it all on slowing down due to old age, Susan began to believe him, but Karl continued to worry. As Karl & Susan began to tidy up the farm, they came across an old fence post with the heights of their children on it and were touched to see that Libby had continued the tradition with Ben. Later on they were shocked to find unpaid bills and no food, and when Tom started talking about Libby as if she was still a child, and couldn’t remember Ben they realised Tom was ill, leaving Karl blaming himself for letting it get so far and ignoring his dad’s calls. Meanwhile, Zeke worried that Susan was still in love with Karl and had been lying to his dad and them all along. With Susan gone, Bree & Stingray took it upon themselves to help their partners through the difficult time, and when Stingray made a speech about Alex and how happy he had made Susan and himself & Bree by bringing Rachel & Zeke into their lives, Zeke began to realise that Susan did love them.

Back at the farm, Karl & Susan awoke in the middle of the night to find Tom trying to start a fire in the middle of the living room and realised he needed 24 hour care. The next morning, after talking to Tom and arranging a place at a local nursing home, Karl, Susan and Tom packed up his things and Tom said a sad farewell to his dog, Goppy, and his home. After taking Tom to the home, Karl & Susan were taking a walk around the farm, when they heard a lamb’s cry. They were shocked to discover it cornered in a shed by a snake, and after some ‘convincing’ from Susan, Karl tried to rescue the lamb whilst she looked on anxiously. As the plan seemed to be failing, they decided to use teamwork, with Karl distracting the snake whilst Susan rescued the lamb. After getting as far away from the snake as possible, they sat down with the lamb and reminisced about Cassie. Brought closer by the events of the past few days and weeks, Susan kissed Karl, before both moved into a passionate embrace.

As Max tried to compliment his wife, Steph told him that she was well aware that she isn’t sexy or beautiful and she didn’t need him rubbing her nose in it and ran to Lyn’s and shared her feelings, saying she didn’t want Max to see her or her scars. She told her mum that she knows Max doesn’t care about that, but it matters to her. Later on, Max apologised for not noticing her problems earlier and told Steph that to him, her scars are a badge of honour, which remind him of everything she has been through and how brave, strong and beautiful she is, and how lucky he is to have her. Touched by her husband’s words, Steph began to feel happier in herself.

Also this week, Lyn was furious when Ned questioned her parenting skills, and the amount of time Oscar spent with him, Janelle tried to bribe Toadie in order to get him to represent them legally again and Zeke criticised Rachel for lying to everyone about her relationship with Stingray.

Notes: Earlier this year, it was announced that, in the ten-week build-up to episode 5000, the writers would be slipping the episode block number (a block being a set of 5 episodes) into the scripts each week. This week, the number 999 was mentioned in Tuesday’s episode, when Rachel surprised Stingray at uni, with a cake iced with the name of his film, but seeing Rachel’s disappointment when he said she’d iced it wrong and put 999 Zombie Killers instead of 995, Stingray decided to change the name to fit the cake.

Linda Hartley-Clark resumed her role of Kerry Bishop this week by way of another voice-over whilst Sky read Kerry’s diary, however, she was wrongly credited for Monday’s episode, when the voice-over featured on Tuesday. Thursday & Friday also saw the welcome return of Tom Kennedy, still played by Bob Hornery.

Monday's episode (number 4991) saw an update to the opening titles, with Connor being removed, several new shots being added, and the order of some of the shots slightly changing. Pictures from the new sequence can be viewed, here.
