The return of an old face caused chaos in the lives of several Ramsay Street residents…

As Paul had Robert transferred to Erinsborough & District Hospital, Gail arrived from Tasmania, and immediately old feelings were rekindled, leaving Izzy feeling sidelined. Gail refused to believe Elle’s idea of what had really happened and pointed out that it was definitely Robert in the ‘coma’ as he had a mole on his arm, which Cameron didn’t have. A distressed Gail was torn between her two sons, wanting to believe Cameron, but not wanting to doubt Robert either and after visiting Cameron in prison, was convinced he was innocent, but Izzy berated her for believing him and questioned her mothering skills, telling her that she had failed, having raised a cold-blooded killer. Gail told Izzy not to judge until she was a mother herself, not knowing of Izzy’s problems with conceiving. After resolving their issues, Izzy asked Gail to stay at number 22 instead of Lassiter’s. Meanwhile, Katya struggled with treating her new patient, Robert, due to his similarity to Cameron; little did she know that Robert was the “Cameron” she had dated and after waking up from his ‘coma’, Robert immediately began to apportion blame onto Cameron. Toadie was annoyed when he found Snr. Sgt. Steiger interviewing Katya about her involvement with “Cameron” and Sean Dempster’s disappearance. Katya & Toadie grew closer this week as a picnic led to them kissing. However, Katya immediately regretted it, telling Toadie she didn’t want to ruin their friendship by going out with him on the rebound from “Cameron”.

Meanwhile, Sky was relieved when her home pregnancy test showed she wasn’t pregnant, but after Mishka’s plan to get Harold to let them stay by staging a burglary, with Lou playing the hero, backfired when they were really burgled, Sky was left visiting the hospital after suffering a bad knock as the burglar escaped. At the hospital, Sky was shocked to find out that she was several weeks pregnant, and was left wondering whether the father was Dylan, J.P. or Stingray. Having ruled out Stingray as a possibility and discovering that J.P. couldn’t have children, Sky was left trying to find a way to tell Dylan. As Dylan continued to ignore her, Mishka & Lou offered Sky their unconditional support.

Rachel & Stingray struggled to keep their relationship a secret, and staged a fight to put Susan of the scent, but she soon saw straight through their act, but when Janelle caught them kissing, they were surprised by her reaction. She told them she agreed with Susan about the age difference, particularly because of the legal issues, but told them they could be together as long as Lyn didn’t find out, and there was no funny business.

Unbeknownst to Max & Boyd, Toadie happily accepted rent money from both of them. Toadie relished taking advantage of his cousin and her fiancé, not only financially, but also by making them do his chores. In order to raise money for their rent, and eventually to find a place of their own, Janae set up a web-log, telling the world about her foul housemates, Toadie, Ned & Boyd, hoping to get paid for advertising.

Janelle went to court over her ‘involvement’ in the DVD pirating, and was overjoyed to get away with a five thousand dollar fine. Infuriated at his Auntie’s perjury, Toadie refused to represent her or her family any longer, which caused Janelle a problem when she was served with a $200,000 compensation claim for breach of copyright from the DVD distribution company. This made Janelle wake up to the fact that Kim wasn’t coming home and she told Lyn that they might have to stay with her for a bit longer, as she was going to have to declare herself bankrupt. Lyn told her friend that she and her family were welcome for as long as they want, and that the rent didn’t matter for now, at least whilst she was working for Paul.

Unable to leave Charlie full-time, Steph decided to go back to work part-time, but still felt her life was missing something. After trying to come up with an invention to rival her baby belt to no avail, Steph decided that getting back on her bike was just what she needed.

Bree asked Karl to take her and Zeke to take them to her biological parent’s house, but as Karl moved some boxes from the back seat of his car into the boot, a phone call from his dad distracted him, leaving Zeke injured after a box fell onto his foot. After rushing to the hospital after a text from Bree, Susan was furious with Karl and told him to stop behaving like he was Zeke’s father, but it seemed to Bree that Susan’s reaction was more to do with her feelings for Karl than Zeke. After Bree shared her suspicions with her boyfriend, Zeke was furious and attacked Karl with his crutches. Disappointed that Zeke thought he had used him to get close to Susan, Karl explained that he likes him, as he liked his dad, and hopes they will always be friends. Meanwhile, Bree visited her parent’s address alone, only to discover that the house had burnt down and her parents had moved on.

Karl was less than impressed when Ned told him to wear a kangaroo outfit for Oodles ‘O’ Noodles next gig, and neither was Jenny, but Susan told Karl that Jenny ought to lighten up and get over it. Meanwhile, Oodles ‘O’ Noodles outshone Paul at the baby belt launch, especially Ned who was introduced to Justine, a fan, by Steph. Justine seemed besotted with Ned and the pair grew close around the pool at number 30, but it seemed as if Justine wanted more from their relationship than Ned did.

Finally this week, Steph admitted to Lyn that she was ashamed of her body due to the scars from the surgery to remove the cancer. Lyn told her daughter that people see Steph and not the scars and reminded her that Max & Charlie couldn’t live without her.

Notes: Earlier this year, it was announced that, in the ten-week build-up to episode 5000, the writers would be slipping the episode block number (a block being a set of 5 episodes) into the scripts each week. This week, the number 998 was mentioned in Thursday’s episode, when Bree planned to visit her biological parents, and told Zeke that their address was 998 Seastrand Street.

Tuesday’s episode saw Gail Robinson return to Ramsay Street after a 17-year absence, still played by Fiona Corke. A full, illustrated summary of the episode can be viewed here.
