A gun, a few secrets and one resident appearing in a girly magazine…

Katya began to realise that she couldn’t escape her past this week, as events, both recent and further back, hindered her in the present. When Boyd desperately tried to replace the morphine at the hospital, he realised that it was going to be difficult due to the increased security. Janae, meanwhile, decided to confront Dr Herbert about her underhand tactics and ended up losing her temper, and her job, in the process. Meanwhile, Dr Herbert did a little digging into Boyd’s past using both his medical records and a chat with Katya and warned Boyd that she would have no difficulty in having him thrown off his course. She also mentioned that Katya had claimed to have had an affair with Max. Boyd was disgusted and so, when there was a surprise locker search later that day, he decided that Katya deserved what was coming to her and hid the morphine in her locker. Katya was stunned to be suspended from work and told Susan that they obviously believed her to be the prime suspect since she used to have a drug problem. When Janae found out that Katya would probably lose her job, she decided to confess to planting the drugs, hoping that it would save both Katya and Boyd’s careers. Although the plan was successful, Boyd later told Katya that it was him and explained his reasons, but, by the end of the week, it looked like she had other things to worry about. After Susan found out that Zeke had been sneaking into the loft space to look at girly magazines, she had a quiet word with him, explaining that, although she didn’t mind, she didn’t want Zeke to think that objectifying women was ok. The next morning, as he threw the magazines away, one dropped to the ground and he was horrified to find that the centrefold was his own sister, Katya.

Steph was concerned that Max wasn’t coping in the aftermath of Cameron’s death, particularly when he suddenly sold the car, as he found himself unable to even get inside it any more. Paul, meanwhile, was back from Cameron’s funeral. Although putting on a brave face and protesting that he had no hard feelings against Max for the accident, a gun in his suitcase said otherwise. As Paul struggled to deal with his feelings, he was finally tipped over the edge that night when he watched Max and Boyd repairing their relationship and sharing a hug on the other side of the street. As Max went for a walk, Paul followed and confronted him at Lassiter’s. A concerned Lyn then found a letter from Paul to Elle, apologising for his behaviour and his inability to forgive Max. Steph and Lyn rushed down to Lassiter’s to look for Max, realising that his life might be in danger but, by the time they got there, Max had already spoken to Paul and made him realise that murder wasn’t going to make his grief any easier. Paul had dropped the gun and Lyn managed to intercept it, with Steph unaware of how close her husband had come to dying. The next morning, a desperate Lyn threw the gun into Lassiter’s lake, hoping that it would be the end of the whole sorry episode, only to turn around and see Izzy watching. This was enough to shock Lyn into realising that Izzy had been right when she suggested that Paul dragged people down to his level and Lyn decided to end her personal relationship with him. Steph, meanwhile, was left stunned when her mum let slip about the gun and finally realised that Max wasn’t coping with things as well as he was making out. With Steph and Charlie off to Bendigo for a few days to visit Joe, Max finally broke down and admitted to Izzy that he couldn’t even look at his son anymore without thinking about Cameron. And although it looked like Paul had finally managed to deal with his grief, with help from his therapist Dr Young, Elle had other ideas. Her underhand tactics became clear when Max was arrested for manslaughter, but released when Paul refused to press charges. Elle then confided in Carmella about the situation, and told her that, if Paul could forgive Max, then so could she. But, after speaking to the man himself, it became clear from the look on her face that she wasn’t yet ready to forgive or forget.

The complicated relationship between Sky, Dylan and Stingray continued this week, as Rachel decided to have a dinner party in order to prove how mature she was. Despite some awkwardness, particularly as Stingray opened the wine hours before dinner, the evening was a success for Rachel and she happily went home. Stingray, left behind with Sky and Dylan, started to get increasingly annoyed as Sky tried to confront him about his drinking, and a fight broke out with Dylan as Stingray made out that Sky was in no position to judge, being pregnant at 18. Susan was also finding it difficult to conceal her feelings about the whole situation and accidentally let slip to Dylan that Karl was no longer Sky’s doctor. Although Sky managed to cover up – claiming that she just preferred to be treated by a woman – she was furious with Susan, who told Sky that she knew the truth about the baby’s parentage and, although she would keep the secret, she thoroughly disapproved of the deception.

It was also the night of the year nine formal this week, but complicated relationships meant that it wasn’t quite the perfect occasion for some. Bree was still convinced that Anne was trying to take over her life and move in on the Timmins family, but Zeke had finally had enough of his girlfriend’s ridiculous behaviour and decided to teach her a lesson by taking lonely Anne to the formal instead. Bree decided not to go, but a chat with Sky soon changed her mind. Sky offered to don a tuxedo and Lou’s fake moustache and go as Bree’s date, Guy Dangle. Bree was touched by the gesture, but Anne was left annoyed when Bree became the centre of attention and everyone was highly amused by her little stunt. Later, at the General Store, Anne confided in Zeke about her unhappy family life, how her parents couldn’t really cope with raising a disabled child, and how she’d never even had her first kiss with a boy. At that point, Zeke leaned in and provided her with it.

Also this week, Janelle and Lou grew closer as they both chaperoned at the school formal and she began to realise what a nice guy he was, though he made sure to take advantage of her sympathy, continuing to allow her to believe that his memory was failing him. And Harold’s addiction to Tazzle’s raspberry cordial got worse, as he took up knitting to deal with all of his extra energy and a pair of booties for Sky’s baby then became a scarf and, before long, a blanket. Elsewhere, Izzy finally opened up to Carmella about her health issues, before doubling up in agony and being told by her doctor that those pains were par for the course, while Ned pretended to be Loris’ toy boy at a cocktail party, but later warned her that he wasn’t going to play her games any more. Toadie, however, had worked out that she was the infamous Ma Timmins and she realised that she would soon have to make Janelle aware of her presence.
