A mixed bag of storylines this week; high drama for the Hoyland family, a sudden declaration of love, a cancer scare – and a surprise eviction.

The Hoyland family dominated this weeks storylines, as it began with Harold revealing that Max had been seen at a Salvation Army centre, but that he only wanted Steph and Boyd to know that he was safe; he wasn’t coming home. This caused nothing but heartache for his devastated family, and while Boyd lashed out at Harold, Steph turned to Toadie. Toadie was suffering his own problems; a routine check-up with Karl turned up a suspicious mole, and fears grew that it could be cancerous, prompting Steph to determine to stand by her man and offer moral support and, at the end of the week, she declared her love. Meanwhile, Boyd continued to torture Elle in much the same way as she had tortured Max, to the point where Paul was beginning to turn on his daughter for her ‘mistakes’. Unable to stand it any longer, she confessed all to her father, who immediately issued a stark threat to Boyd.

And Janae began her new job working for Rex Colt at his garage, little realising she was there to boost the workers’ morale and act as a pretty face. When sleazy Rex made a pass at her, Janae determined to get her revenge on him, and highlighted the revealing uniform he made her wear by putting up a poster outside the garage. However, this backfired as Rex trapped her in his office, obviously determined to rape her, and it was only when passing Pepper and Allan Steiger heard her cries for help, that she was rescued. In a strong week for the Hoyland’s, the character of Janae really stood out; she showed how much she had grown in her time on the show by warning Boyd not to spiral out of control, then showed her naivety by happily wearing the skimpy uniform Rex gave her. The relationship between Steph and Toadie gathered apace she she declared her love in the wake of Max’s revelation that he didn’t want to see her again, but could she be on the rebound?

The Timmins family also received a fair bit of exposure this week as Janelle went ahead with her plans to sue Karl for his mistake over Kerry’s paternity. In a highly powerful scene in the Street, Susan furiously reminded Janelle of how she and Karl had done everything to help her children since they had arrived in the Street, and how they had put them on the straight and narrow because she was too stupid to do it herself. Janelle’s fortunes changed when she learnt that Loris had signed over her share of Lassiter’s to the rest of the family upon her departure, delighting them, and horrifying Paul, who couldn’t believe he was going to have Janelle as a business partner. I thought this was a wonderful development for the Timmins family, and can’t wait to see how their time in charge of Lassiter’s fares.

Elsewhere this week, the Big Brother-style eviction at No. 30 backfired for Ned as while Pepper and Rosie voted for Frazer, all the boys voted for Ned, believing no-one else would, and the gormless wonder was out on his ear! Meanwhile, Rosie vowed to lose her virginity by New Year’s Eve, Will declared his love for Carmella, prompting her to decide to have the surgery on her face, Elle undermined herself in a bid to win Dylan’s heart, Paul changed his will – and found he had a connection with Rosie…
