It was Paul and Lyn’s wedding day – with an unexpected twist…
|
With his wedding only days away, Paul was still being plagued by thoughts of Rosetta and when Lyn decided to offer a Lassiter’s business traineeship to Rosie, it brought Paul closer to the young lawyer than he’d imagined. As Paul gave Rosie a tour of the complex and its facilities, she demanded to see the vintage wine cellar and was suitably impressed, until the pair found themselves locked in, with Paul unaware that the security code had been changed. As the pair got to talking about past relationships, Paul realised that Rosie was still a virgin, and she admitted that she’d decided to concentrate on her career before her love life. Their frank discussion ended with the pair finally giving in to their attraction, but before things could go too far, they were found by a member of the hotel staff. By that time, Lyn had raised the alarm when Paul hadn’t come home and Frazer was convinced that Rosie was being taken advantage of, something which earned him a slap from the soon-to-be bride. With the missing pair back in Ramsay Street, Rosie was reluctant to talk, as Paul threw himself into planning the last minute details for the wedding, but neither could stop thinking about the other.

Following a fun night with the girls for Lyn, and a slightly more sedate night babysitting Oscar for Paul, the wedding day finally dawned. And it had been an equally interesting night for Rosie and Frazer, who had finally managed to form a friendship with each other. Frazer’s attempts to admit to Rosie that he was actually George Brown, the brother of her ex-fiance, Johnny, had failed, though, when she fell asleep before he got the words out. As the bride and groom prepared for their big day, Rosie and Frazer then made plans for a big day of their own – at the races, only for Frazer’s car, Bessie, to break down. As they, very slowly, returned to Ramsay Street to get Rosie’s car, they passed the church, where Paul was standing outside waiting for Lyn to arrive. Then, there was a brief glance between Paul and Rosie that would ruin Lyn’s life before the day was over. Despite some hesitation, the vows were completed and everyone headed off to a lavish reception, where Paul made a speech about being lucky to find his ideal woman living on the same street. But when they arrived at the hotel suite, Paul admitted his kiss with Rosetta and told Lyn that he couldn’t continue with the marriage, as he would only break her heart. And so ended the shortest marriage in Neighbours’ history. A shocked Lyn decided that she had to get away, as quickly as possible, and the next morning, after thanking Steph and Susan for their support, headed off on the honeymoon to the Maldives with Oscar, announcing that she’d take some extra time out to visit Flick and Michelle on the way back. And so the time came to say goodbye to both Janet Andrewartha and Ingo Dammer-Smith, who’ve racked up over a decade in Ramsay Street between them. Janet’s final scenes really gave her a chance to shine, and provided Lyn with the opportunity to go out with her head held high, no longer having to rely on a man.

After lying to Carmella that his dad was a lawyer, Will found himself in a difficult situation when she then recommended him to Harold, whose books had been slowly falling apart since David’s death. But Carmella’s suspicions were raised when Harold went to an appointment with the accounting firm and came back saying that he’d been assigned to another accountant, as nobody by the name of Griggs worked there, or had ever worked there. When Carmella confronted her boyfriend, he admitted that he had paid for Harold to go with another accounting firm, as his dad didn’t want to take on any new clients. Carmella was left confused, and Will told her that if she didn’t trust him, perhaps they shouldn’t go to Paul and Lyn’s wedding reception together. But, once there, separately, they soon fell back into each other’s arms and, by the end of the day, she had made the decision not to re-enter the convent.
After catching Chris and Carol kissing, Janae was desperate to keep Pepper from finding out the truth by accident and so lied to her that Chris had gone out on a test drive. After getting Chris alone, Janae told her what had happened, and what she knew, and Chris finally admitted her big secret, and that she hadn’t found the courage yet to tell her ex-husband or daughter. Later, it seemed that the secret had finally brought down the wall separating Janae from her employer, as the pair had a heart to heart and Chris admitted that she’d come out to her sister, Miriam, who had taken the news very badly, and left her worried about how Pepper would react. Janae, meanwhile, was left with a dilemma – knowing how much her mum liked Steiger, and that he stood no chance of getting back together with his ex-wife, should she keep Chris’ secret or tell her mum?

Finally this week, Lou’s discrimination case came to a quick conclusion, when Toadie arranged for some press to be present at a meeting with BonzAir manager Richard Peris. After realising how much negative press the story could generate, Richard agreed to give Lou a place on the training programme and would do his best to get him on the Melbourne to Moscow route. Elsewhere, Boyd found himself having to lie when he started receiving calls from his mysterious Tasmanian fling Glenn, while Elle decided to spend Christmas with Gail, disgusted by her father’s treatment of Lyn, and as if that wasn’t enough, Steph then punched him for the same reason.
