Lou’s week began well, as he and Valda decided on a second date. Of course, any fan will know that it’s never that simple, and, after the problems with Trixie’s call last week, Valda was in for a surprise when Charlie Cassidy turned up. His arrival made her late for the date, but this time, both parties realised that there was a funny side to their situation, and agreed to stay friends. Meanwhile, Lou had far more serious things on his mind, as his court case loomed. This storyline has continued the current trend of setting storylines up a long way in advance, and can be traced all the way back to Lou meeting Trixie a year ago. Things have gone dramatically downhill for Lou since then, with his marriage falling apart, then going bankrupt and being sucked in by Rocco to illegally switch racehorses. Despite all this, it came as quite a shock when Lou was sentenced to three years in prison for his crime. The local community was astounded, but Toadie pointed out that Lou’s standing the community made him a prime target for the judge to make an example of. The shocks didn’t end there, as Lou spent a lonely night in prison, with his cellmate due to return the next morning. Having received a threatening note earlier in the week, Lou was concerned that he may run into Rocco on the inside. However, as he returned to his cell after breakfast the next morning, he was shocked to find Darcy there. As Darcy informed Lou that many of the inmates were only too aware of Mr Carpenter’s good financial standing, it seemed that Lou would be in for a rocky ride in prison…
Mac’s double life was beginning to cause her problems this week, and it seemed that she was starting to allow her problems to overtake her. Having lent Jack $1000 a few weeks earlier, she suddenly began demanding the money back. Although the viewers have been granted access to Mac’s life as both a cop and a clubber, we still aren’t entirely aware of why she’s experiencing such serious money problems. Mac’s worries caused her to be distracted momentarily and almost run down Summer on her bike. Stuart then became concerned about his partner, but it was obvious that she didn’t want her colleague poking his nose in. Turning up at the Scully house at 3am, Mac begged Jack to go clubbing with her, but it seemed he’d turned over a new leaf. It was at this point that Mac turned nasty, and started asking him again for her money. Things only got more complicated when Stuart made his intentions clear by asking her out.

It was full steam ahead for the Hoyland/Scully wedding plans this week, but sadly the bride and groom were the least involved in the process. Max spent much of the week following a list of instructions from Lyn, who seemed to have suddenly found a new focus in life following Joe’s departure. Unfortunately, she was irritating the hell out of everyone. Along with Valda, she managed to railroad most of the neighbours into being involved in the wedding plans, and invited the entire Scully clan to the event. During a visit to the wedding venue, Charlie decided to speak his mind, leading to an argument with Valda. However, he managed to calm her down very quickly by presenting her with a pair of pearl earrings. It seemed that this was one relationship that was ready to be explored further. Meanwhile, Max and Steph finally reached the end of their respective tethers. As Max became more and more worked up on the night before the wedding, he realised that all the stress wasn’t worth it, and he called over to the Scully house at 4am, suggesting that perhaps they should elope…

Having found out that Stingray had a tattoo on his bum, and that it began with the letter ‘s’, Serena continued her quest to find out what it said. She and Sky decided that Boyd would have a better chance of seeing it, whilst they were getting changed in the locker room. Unfortunately, Stingray saw him looking, and a series of misunderstandings ensued, with Stingray accusing Boyd of fancying him. Realising that the madness was going to continue forever more, Sky finally decided to end it once and for all, by pulling Stingray’s pants down in the school corridor. Serena learnt that her boyfriend had the name ‘Shazza’ tattooed on his bum and flew into a rage, but it seemed that this wasn’t enough for him to reveal the identity of the mysterious Shazza. In a somewhat stupid attempt to rectify things, Stingray first attempted to remove the tattoo with bleach, then convinced Boyd to write ‘Serena’ on the other cheek. Unfortunately Serena wasn’t to be fooled by this, and, in some amusing scenes, he rushed into number 24 with his pants down, only to find that David recognised the bum that had been mooning him. With Stingray offside with most of the Bishop family, it seemed that he was going to need to do some serious talking to sort things out.

Also this week, Summer’s dabbling in witchcraft continued, as she decided to cast a spell on Lisa for stealing her boyfriend. As one would. What Summer (and the audience) didn’t know was that this would result in her receiving the same punishment back threefold. With the shelves in the fridge collapsing, followed by a near run-in with a police car, it’s only a matter of time before disaster strucks Miss Hoyland a third time. Liljana and Sindi’s contest to see who was better at predicting the future continued too. Naturally, Lil, being Lil, decided that she had to win, and read Harold’s diary, confirming that upcoming events for Mr Bishop included a trip to the dentist, Lou’s court case and, quite bizarrely, buying a new trowel. Liljana then read all of these incidents in Harold’s coffee grounds, and put an end to the feud. Her comic capers were not over for the week though, as she returned from a trip to the supermarket and announced that she had run into her priest, Father Popovich. It seemed that she wasn’t prepared to admit that she had missed so much church because she was lazy, so she fabricated some marital problems. Then she invited the Father over for dinner the following week. That’s next week’s comedy plot taken care of then…
Notes: A full, illustrated summary of Thursday’s episode, number 4526 (Darcy’s Return) can be read here.
Episode number 4526 saw Scott’s name permanently change to Stingray in the closing credits.
The title of episode 4524, He Used To Bring Me Roses, was a small nod to the theme tune of another Australian soap opera, Prisoner: Cell Block H.
