Two sad departures left a couple of male residents nursing broken hearts, while another two male residents made some money by impersonating women…

Having only returned last week, Nina was saying goodbye once again. At the beginning of the week, she found out the truth about Jack’s recent drug addiction and car crash, and vowed to stand by him regardless. Even when she saw him saying goodbye to Mac with a kiss, she did not waver, and was soon asking him to join her when she left for Los Angeles. Jack saw this as a perfect solution to his problems and soon plans were being made for them both to leave. However, as soon as Lyn found out about it, she was setting the cat amongst the pigeons. She quickly put doubts in Nina’s head, telling her that Jack really didn’t need to be running away from his problems. Not long after, Jack had come to the same realisation, but Nina had already cancelled his ticket, and told him that she was going to give up on Hollywood and stay to be with him. Jack couldn’t cope with being the reason that Nina gave up on her dreams, and managed to talk her out of it. They agreed that, once Jack had sorted all of his problems out, they would reunite. Having Delta back on the show has proven, at least to me, that she wasn’t simply using the show to launch her music career. She cared enough about Nina to come back and film this final storyline. It would have been nice to hear her sing though.

Also saying goodbye this week was Stuart, as Olivia told him that she wouldn’t be seeing him anymore after he reported her for police corruption. Her first port of call, however, was Jack, who was probably the person who suffered most as a result of her presence. Afterwards, she met Stuart by the lake and said her goodbyes to him, admitting that despite everything, she really admired his integrity. Stuart found himself victimised at work due to reporting Olivia, and Steiger told him to take some time off in the hope that everything would blow over. Meanwhile, Stuart’s housemates, Toadie and Connor, found a bizarre new way to make money when they became involved with Log-on Lovers, a website which matched men up with their ideal women. Unfortunately, Toadie and Connor were being paid to pretend to be women. When Sindi found out, she was less than impressed, particularly as Toadie had recently described her as a “part-time” girlfriend. She decided to get her own back by signing up for the website herself, and soon Toadie and Sindi were chatting and gender roles were all over the shop. As with many of the House of Trouser storylines, this is amusing enough, and would probably sit well in most sitcoms, but hopefully it won’t get dragged out too long.

Susan and Karl’s divorce settlement came to court this week, after attempts at mediation fell apart. Things seemed to be mellowing out slightly after the last few weeks, but when they began to flare up once again as the lawyers became involved, Izzy couldn’t help but interfere. She burst into the room, accusing Susan of wanting to bleed Karl dry, causing him to decide that the process wasn’t worth it. Meanwhile, Karl’s lost wedding ring was found in the bar where he lost it, and this triggered further insecurities in Izzy. She had a nightmare in which she was drowning and trying to retrieve the ring. Matters worsened when Tim Collins was called away to Sydney, and Toadie was forced to represent Susan in court. It seemed like the court room was going to be just as bad as the mediation, until Libby had finally had enough. She stood up and reminded her parents of how much they used to love each other. This was a turning point for them, and they asked for some time alone together. Once they had managed to work it all out, they ended up sharing a close moment and a passionate kiss. Jackie Woodburne has stated that this kiss was more about saying goodbye than some lingering feelings between the couple. Still, it’s nice to see them getting along with each other, and hopefully, in the distant future, when Izzy is packed off somewhere unpleasant, there might be a reunion.

Svetlanka’s presence continued to have an effect on the Bishop family. As Harold began to warm to her even more, they went out for dinner and enjoyed each other’s company a great deal. While saying goodbye, they even ended up sharing a kiss, albeit by accident. Svetlanka decided to put the $100,000 into David and Liljana’s bank account, and David couldn’t resist spending a little to pay off some debts. Lil was horrified, feeling that her mother had now won. They went to see Svetlanka and told her that they would be returning the money, but Lil had softened a little and asked her mother to come to dinner before she left. When the night came, the atmosphere was strained to say the least, and it looked like being quite a while before a normal mother/daughter relationship was restored. On the same night, Serena attended a Serbian youth night at the school, although it was against her better judgement. There she met a young man named Luka and the couple seemed to have a connection. Luka explained that he was new in town, but what Serena wasn’t aware of, was the fact that Luka had earlier been at the hotel looking for Svetlanka… the plot thickens.

Meanwhile, the relationship between Sky and Lana finally took a turn for the better. A netball match at the school led to a fight between the two girls, for which they were punished with a detention, during which they had to paint the sets for the school play. At first, they struggled to be civil, but when they realised that they’d painted a whole wall the wrong colour, they realised that their lack of communication was the problem, and the atmosphere began to thaw between them. Meanwhile, Max was struggling to cope with the news that it was him who was the problem behind their recent failure to conceive. A heart-to-heart with Summer about things left Max feeling slightly better about things, but it seemed that it would be a long time before he accepted the situation. And Steph’s attempts to help him with some pamphlets could only make matters worse…
