An old face returned to Ramsay Street, whilst other residents battled with police corruption, emotional blackmail and infertility…

It seems that more and more people are returning to Ramsay Street in recent months, but the return of Nina Tucker this week was something special. After almost a year in Bombay, making a career for herself as a Bollywood actress, Nina returned to Australia and headed straight for Ramsay Street. Her mission was to get back Jack. He was busy trying to stop the wasp epidemic that had hit number 26, and she was the last person he expected to see on the doorstep. She updated him about her new life in Bombay, while he made out that everything in his life was going well, despite the fact that he’d wrecked his father’s business and his uni career, got addicted to drugs and almost died in a car crash. Nina told him that she would soon be heading out to LA where she had an agent, but would be around for a few days. As she left the house, Nina showed how much she’d changed by suddenly instigating a passionate kiss with Jack. It’s great to have Delta Goodrem back in the show, even for a short time, after all she’s been through in the past year. It’s also great to see Nina finally being the confident young woman that was always hiding inside her.

Svetlanka continued to wreak havoc on the Bishop family, as Serena brought her to dinner at number 24 without revealing who the mystery guest would be. Svetlanka made the most of her reunion with her daughter by turning up late and pretending she’d been hassled by a taxi driver, hoping to gain some sympathy. Of course, Liljana wasn’t about to be fooled by her twisted mother, but Svetlanka had another ace up her sleeve – she wanted to give them $100,000. Svetlanka knew that their money worries were something of an achilles heel for the Bishop couple, and this soon became evident. When Lil refused to take the money, and looked to David, he was unable to turn it down, causing a huge rift. Svetlanka quickly found some sympathy in Harold, however, and he continually assured her that things would work out fine in the end. But when David and Svetlanka bumped into each other in the Coffee Shop later on in the week, he issued her with an ultimatum; if she did give them the money, she was to return to Perth and not contact them anymore. As Svetlanka had been constantly reminding the family that the money had no ulterior motives, she seemed to be stuck, and later broke down on Harold’s shoulder as the idea of losing her family became clearer. Svetlanka is a classic evil soap character in that she breezes in when things are just getting settled, causes some chaos for everyone, then leaves. Although she can be a little pantomime at times (the accent doesn’t help), these are the sorts of characters who have been missing from the show for many years, so it’s great to have her back.

Speaking of evil characters, Izzy’s nightmares continued to plague her life this week, as Karl once again found her asleep in the middle of the road. Although she tried to explain that her disrupted sleep patterns were just caused by worry about the robbery, Karl heard her talking in her sleep, saying that everyone was going to find out, and he started to wonder whether his girlfriend was keeping something else from him. Meanwhile, Susan was becoming increasingly frustrated with her incompetent lawyer, and decided to get rid of him and employ the best one she knew; Tim Collins. She only realised later that this would also drag Toadie into the equation, and he’d only wanted to remain impartial. Tim warned Susan that she couldn’t sit back and allow Izzy to take everything, which prompted Susan to take on a nastier edge. Things only got worse when Susan found a man removing equipment from the surgery. Although Karl was only upgrading, Susan thought he was trying to sell assets from under her.

Lyn was back in Ramsay Street this week, returning from the farm in Bendigo with some important news. It seemed that, in an effort to explain Shane Connor’s disappearance on a more permanent basis, Joe had decided to buy the farm from his dying father. Lyn explained that she would be remaining in Erinsborough for a while to handle the sale of the house, then going up there to join him. Meanwhile, Steph had her own problems as she and Max decided to get some fertility tests done to try and find out why they weren’t conceiving. Steph was in for a nasty shock when the first set of tests showed up some possible problems that could have stemmed from her cancer treatment. She and Max were asked to take a further series of tests, and, after a day of anxious waiting, everything was turned on its head when it seemed that Max was the one with the problem. He was shocked, having already had two kids, and struggled to cope with the feelings of inadequacy that came to him.

Elsewhere, Summer’s heart was broken by a letter from Caleb explaining that he’d met someone else and didn’t want to see her anymore. Summer managed to get her own back when he later phoned, and Jack spoke to him, claiming to be Summer’s new boyfriend. The robot competition came to a close, thankfully, as Sindi finally decided that she’d had enough of being second fiddle to a lump of metal. Roping in Jack and Summer, they created Powderpuff, a pink opponent to Toadie and Connor’s robot, The Caketaker. As she obliterated him in the robot war, it seemed that this little phase of madness in number 30 was finally at a close. Finally this week, Stuart realised that he couldn’t ignore what Olivia had told him, and that he would have to report her for police corruption. However, it seemed that it wasn’t going to be easy, as his colleagues weren’t about to take kindly to having one of their own turned in.
