Billy
Billy 1986
Lived: 26 Ramsay Street
As the only companion to elderly Mrs York since the death of her husband, Billy was treated very well by his owner, often better than Mrs York herself. Having come into a great deal of debt, Mrs York had been forced to sell her possessions and live on scraps in order to keep up appearances with her neighbours, including the interfering Mrs Mangel. However, this caused her health to suffer and, although Clive Gibbons and Helen Daniels realised the problem, it was too late to help Mrs York and she died. Billy was taken in by Helen’s granddaughter, Lucy Robinson, but he refused to eat and seemed unwilling to let the little girl play with him. When he went missing one afternoon, Lucy was frantic, but the family eventually tracked him down to Mrs York’s house, where he had passed away on his owner’s doorstep.
