Miss MacDoon's family had settled in Australia after her father had emigrated there from Scotland (his elder brother had also left the British Isles for Canada). She married a Mr Frank Bishop and they raised one son called Harold, who was schooled in the city of Brisbane.

In 1989, Harold discovered that following the recent death of his Great Uncle Alastair MacDoon, he was possibly entitled to the title of Earl of Doon and to ownership of Castle Doon. Sadly for Harold, it wasn't to be as he later discovered that his distant Canadian cousin, Roy MacDoon, had a stronger claim to the inheritance, since his grandfather was older than Harold's.
