When Joe Mangel got together with Lyn Scully, he decided that the perfect gift for her would be a greyhound. Not the first dog to be owned by Joe, the greyhound was named Bouncer 5, after former Ramsay Street Labrador Bouncer. Joe’s plan was to race the dog and make some money, but it quickly became apparent that the dog had little interest in working up a sweat and would rather lounge around on the carpet. However, when Bouncer 5 spotted Audrey, the little dog from next-door, he suddenly perked up and chased her down the street and so Joe spotted the perfect opportunity to train her up and “borrowed” Audrey from owner Susan Smith. Greyhound training took a back seat, however, when several Ramsay Street residents were involved in a plane crash, and Joe was forced to comfort stepdaughter Sky and father-in-law Harold through their loss. A few weeks later, Joe received word from his son Toby that he was needed back in Western Australia and so he, and Bouncer 5, left Erinsborough, unsure of when they’d be back.
