Guest Character Profiles > Sanjeev Devkar Mark Silveira

Sanjeev Devkar 2024
Marital Status: Reena
Children: Hari [Haz], Amira, Second Son [Name Unknown]

After learning that their son, Hari, known as Haz, had been making extra money at uni, using his IT skills for hacking and creating deepfakes with a group of friends, Sanjeev and Reena Devkar disowned him. Haz rebuilt his life, but had no contact with his parents or his siblings for a few years, instead rebuilding his life by moving to Erinsborough, adopting dog Trevor and buying the lease to Harolds Cafe at Lassiters. Haz moved onto Ramsay Street and made new friendships, eventually starting to date Mackenzie Hargreaves, but his past soon came back to haunt him. Wade Fernsby, whose life and business had been ruined by deepfakes created by Haz and his friends, was out for revenge, framing Haz for stealing money from his neighbours and creating deepfakes to hurt them. When Wade was found out, he asked Haz to help him create a new hacking enterprise, stealing from big corporations. It looked like Haz had agreed when he disappeared to join Wade, but he was actually working with the police, which ended in Haz being hit by a car and ending up in a coma. Haz's sister, Amira, was tracked down and immediately went to her brother's bedside and, when he woke up, she told him that their parents wanted him to come home to Margaret River to recover, saying that they were willing to forget the past and move on.

Haz ultimately decided to stay in Erinsborough with Mackenzie and his friends, but continued to keep in touch with his parents. When Mackenzie was offered a job in Paris a few months later, she and Haz got engaged, planning to marry before they left Erinsborough two weeks later. Haz was happy when Amira and his parents agreed to attend the wedding, but when Amira arrived on the eve of the big day, she struggled to tell her brother that their parents weren't coming. Confiding in his friends, she explained that, although they had forgiven Haz, they were finding it difficult to move on and were upset that he hadn't been home to see them, even after his time in hospital. Haz's friend Byron came up with a plan to record the neighbours talking about Haz, particularly those who'd been affected by the deepfakes, to show the new life he'd made and the respect people had for him. When this plan failed, Mackenzie was forced to tell her fiancé the truth and he was left deflated, until Reena and Sanjeev had a last-minute change of mind. Amira explained that a butterfly had landed on Sanjeev's lap and refused to move and, aware that Mackenzie saw butterflies as a positive sign, they'd jumped on the next flight to Melbourne.

With only a few hours before the wedding, Haz was thrilled to be reunited with his parents, with Sanjeev admitting that they could have made more effort to come and see him, instead of blaming him for never visiting. After meeting their soon-to-be daughter-in-law, Mackenzie, as well as Trevor, Reena and Sanjeev then attended the wedding, proudly watching their son get married, before joining everyone for the reception at Harolds. That evening, they said their goodbyes to Haz, promising to visit him and Mackenzie in Paris, as he set off for his new life.
