As wedding preparations for Libby Kennedy and Drew Kirk got under way, Libby's best friend Stephanie Scully seemed the obvious choice as bridesmaid. However, little did Libby realise, Steph had fallen in love with Drew, even though he only had eyes for Libby, and so Steph wanted as little to do with the wedding as possible. She turned down Libby's offer and made up an excuse that she was going to be away on a biking tour during the couple's nuptials. Libby was upset and confused that her best friend wouldn't want to be at her wedding, and eventually got the truth from Drew who had found out a few months before hand. Things became awkward between the two friends so instead, Libby asked her cousin Gail to perform the important duty of bridesmaid.

Libby received a last minute cancellation from Gail due to her baby having to have some minor surgery during the week of the wedding, but Steph and Libby made up just in time for the big day, and Steph was able to step into the role she was first offered.

Trivia Notes
• Although they were described as cousins, it remains unclear how exactly Libby and Gail are related. Karl is known to be an only child, so it's probable that Gail is from Susan's side of the family. Gail could be the daughter of Carmel Tyler, and therefore be sister to Darcy Tyler. This seems more likely than her being the daughter of Liz Conway since she had been out of contact with the Kennedy family for several years at the time of Libby's wedding.
• Another cousin of Libby's, Christine, was mentioned in 2009 as living in the UK. Again, the relationship to Libby was not explained
