When Xanthe Canning picked up teacher Brad Willis's iPad at Harold's Cafe one day, she intended to sell it, but quickly found another way to make money out of it. She found an exam paper on it, and sold copies to many of the other students in her class, including her best friend - and Brad's daughter - Piper Willis, as well as Ainsley Gilzan. However, when she realised where Xanthe had got the exam from, Piper was unable to cope with the guilt and told her dad, omitting the fact that she'd used the stolen paper herself. When Ainsley scored 90% in the exam, it was quickly worked out that she'd been one of the students who bought a paper, and she found herself ostracised from her friendship group, who'd also been caught out. She turned up on Xanthe's doorstep, blaming her for the whole mess, and Xanthe, desperate to make amends, organised a party at Paul Robinson's motel, after hiring a room for the day. Though Paul knew what his underage guests were up to, he needed all the money he could get, so he turned a blind eye, but it wasn't long before Xanthe's furious grandmother Sheila turned up and brought the party to a grinding halt.
