The brother of Nikki Dennison’s schoolfriend, Jane, and the object of Nikki’s affections, William Hughes made a somewhat snobbish contribution when she invited him to a dinner party at the Robinson house. The party coincided with the arrival of Helen Daniels’ daughter, Rosemary, a successful businesswoman, from New York. William proceeded to insult her, claiming that women shouldn’t have careers and shouldn’t even feel the need to even leave the kitchen. The final straw came as he refused to help the rest of the youngsters with the washing up, claiming that his parents hired people to do such tasks, and he quickly left, realising that he wasn’t welcome.
