When Libby Kennedy was offered a job as youth affairs editor on The Chronicle newspaper, then the offer was suddenly withdrawn when editor Martin West learnt that she was pregnant, Libby was furious and decided to sue. As it was looking less and less likely that Libby could prove her case, she received a call from Nancy Kelloway, Martin’s assistant, arranging a secret meeting. Once Nancy had made sure Libby wasn’t simply suing for the money or publicity, she gave her some emails, which proved that Libby had been passed over for the job due to her pregnancy. Libby was then able to receive a substantial out-of-court settlement, which she used to start her own magazine.
