After her estranged mother, Estelle Petrides, arrived in Erinsborough, Terese Willis struggled to accept her back into her life. It quickly became clear that lazy and selfish Estelle was never going to change, as she fell for the charms of Terese's ex-husband Paul Robinson, who was only using her to upset Terese. Just as it seemed like mother and daughter were working through their problems, Terese found out that her partner, Glen Donnelly, was being blackmailed by Estelle over his problem with prescription drugs. A furious Terese gave Estelle a cheque, telling her that she could accept the money and they would never see each other again, or she could return the cheque and they could try to build their relationship. As Terese waited for her mum's decision, she watched a mother and daughter, Jannie and Daisy, in the Waterhole, noticing how close they were and wishing that she could have had a similar relationship with her own mum.
