Debra Moloney 2001
Occupation: Education Board Representative
Education board representative Debra Moloney was called to Erinsborough High twice in 2001. On the first occasion, she was forced to investigate when troubled student Jess Fielding accused school principal Susan Kennedy of hitting her. At the school she first interviewed Susan about her version of events, before speaking to Jess’ boyfriend Tad Reeves who admitted that he had hardly seen what had happened. As she left, Debra admitted that, although she’d heard many positive reports about Susan, there was also a lot of evidence to suggest that her relationship with Jess was poor. Although Susan was then suspended during a more thorough investigation, it didn’t get far, as Tad forced Jess to admit that she’d been the one lashing out and Susan had only raised her arm in self-defence.
Susan was reinstated, but later that year her job was under threat again. This time, it seemed as though the school council had lost faith in Susan, following several press reports about bullying at the school, stemming from teacher Evan Hancock, who believed that his son, Leo, was the victim. However, just as it was looking as though Susan’s tenure wouldn’t be renewed, Leo stepped forward and admitted that he hadn’t been bullied, but had actually been writing the homework of the other kids to make money. The bullying issue was no longer relevant, and the council had no choice but to back Susan for another year.
