With Nicolette Stone deciding that it was time to move on from Kiri Durant, her mum, Jane Harris, decided to try and help. After spotting a pride rainbow on a customer's bag in the Waterhole, Jane struck up a conversation with them, learning that they were called Asher, and identified as queer and non-binary. As Asher had a son who was around the same age as Nicolette's daughter, Isla, Jane decided to try and do some matchmaking, leaving Nicolette feeling quite uncomfortable when she returned from the bathroom to find her mum encouraging her to go and chat with Asher.

A few weeks later, Nicolette was still trying to decide whether to contact Asher, and Jane once again decided to take matters into her own hands, inviting Asher to Hendrix and Mackenzie's wedding reception, though making them believe that Nicolette knew they were coming. When Asher realised that they'd been set up, they were a little surprised, but neither Asher nor Nicolette were entirely unhappy with the way things had panned out. As the night continued, Asher and Nicolette started spending time with Kiri and Chloe, and whilst Asher and Nicolette ended up sharing a kiss, it was Chloe and Kiri who ended up in bed together that night. The next day, Nicolette and Asher arranged to meet at a bar in the city, where Jane once again tagged along. Though Asher was late due to childcare problems, they still managed to have a good time with Nicolette, the pair finding a great deal of amusement in the fact that Jane was completely oblivious to the fact that various women in the bar were hitting on her. However, the next day, when Nicolette spotted Chloe and Kiri together and realised that things between them were coming to an end, she realised that she would just be stringing Asher along if there was still a chance to get together with Kiri. When Asher called by at Harold's later to try and arrange another date, Nicolette made excuses, before admitting that she just didn't think that it was going to work out for them.
