Foster mother to Cat Rogers, Lorraine Newman was surprised to receive a call from Sonya Rebecchi, who told her that Cat had turned up at her house and had been telling some unpleasant stories about her foster parents. Sonya, an old friend of Cat's birth mother Erin, had been trying to bring Erin and Cat back together, but Erin, a recovering addict, had relapsed and skipped town. In the meantime, Cat had enjoyed spending time with Sonya and her husband Toadie, growing attached to them and announcing that she wanted to live with them, as Lorraine was pregnant and no longer wanted a foster child around the house. However, Cat's other stories - about only being given two meals a day, and being told to put water on her cereal instead of milk - rang a bell with Sonya, who, along with Erin, had told similar stories for sympathy when she was a teenager. When Sonya contacted Lorraine, she immediately came down from Albury and denied all of the Cat's stories, though she did admit that she was expecting a baby, and was surprised that Cat even knew about it. Once reunited with Cat, Lorraine insisted that she would love her just as much as her new baby, and they agreed to give things another try, with Cat realising that she was actually quite excited about becoming a big sister.
