When Laura Dennison was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, her daughter Nikki tried to support her, but ended up annoying her by never allowing her out of her sight. As the pair continued to argue, their friend Clive Gibbons contacted Peggy O’Hara, a counsellor from the multiple sclerosis clinic, who visited Nikki. She explained that every MS case was different, but around 85% of people with the condition could still live normal lives. Nikki was surprised and her whole attitude was changed as Peggy told her to be supportive, but not mothering.
